Algebra I Enrichment-Week 1

Dear Algebra I Families,

I hope this email finds you well, healthy and safe. Students, I miss you terribly, and miss our time together in the classroom. I hope you are staying active and taking advantage of your time wisely.

As you know, math is a skill and requires practice. As per Dr. Milrod's request, we are not providing mandatory assignments, but enrichment, assignments for you to complete to stay sharp and strengthen your skills. My suggestion this week is to complete the CHECKPOINT assignments in the CPM resources.

Students master different skills at different speeds. No two students learn exactly the same way at the same time. At some point you will be expected to perform certain skills accurately. Most of the Checkpoint problems incorporate skills that you should have been developing in grades 5 and 6.

Starting in Chapter 1 and finishing in Chapter 9, there are 9 sets problems designed as Checkpoint problems. The practice sets are keyed to each of the Checkpoint problems in the textbook, one in each chapter. Each has the topic clearly labeled, followed by the answers to the corresponding Checkpoint problem and then some completed examples. There are more problems for you to practice with answers included. You can reach out to me at any time to ask questions about the problems.

To get to the Checkpoints:
-log in to CPM ebooks
-click the References tab on the left of the page under the Chapters
-click the Checkpts. tab
-choose one of the Checkpoints

Here is the list of topics:

  1.       Solving Linear Equations, Part 1 (Integer Coefficients)

  2.       Evaluating Expressions and the Order of Operations

  3.       Operations with Rational Numbers

  4.       Solving Linear Equations, Part 2 (Fractional Coefficients)

5A.     Laws of Exponents and Scientific Notation

5B.     Writing the Equation of a Line

6A.     Rewriting Equations with More Than One Variable

6B.     Multiplying Polynomials and Solving Equations with Parentheses

7A.     Solving Problems by Writing Equations

7B.     Solving Linear Systems of Equations

  8.       Interpreting Associations

  9.       Writing Exponential Equations from Situations

   10A.  The Exponential Web

   10B.  Factoring Polynomials

   11.    The Quadratic Web

Don't forget to use your resources! You can use your calculator and formula sheet. If you do not have a formula sheet, you can find one here: PDE 7th Grade Formula Sheet     Algebra I Keystone Formula Sheet

These enrichment assignments will be posted to Google Classroom on a weekly basis starting today. Remember, these checkpoints are not mandatory, but encouraged.

Parents, please feel free to request access to Google Classroom so that you too can see the assignments posted.

Students, if you are not a part of our class' Google Classroom, please email me and we will get you added.

Again, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, or if you just want to say hello!

Be safe. Stay healthy. See you soon!
